The 2024 graduating class of Michaelis School of Fine Art UCT are pleased to announce that they will be hosting the annual silent auction fundraiser.

This highly anticipated event, and continued Michaelis tradition, provides funds  that aid in the facilitating of the graduate show. In addition to this, funds raised through the auction assist in the production of professional  catalogues for the graduating class, and contributes to the Materials Bursary Fund which provides disadvantaged students with financial assistance towards art supplies. 

All pieces auctioned are donations from various contemporary artist, local and non local. This fundraising effort sets the foundation for important elements in the development of socially connected, resourceful young artists. It enables the graduating class an opportunity to give back to the school, and to frame their work within a broader context of professional art practice. 

The event is entirely not-for-profit, with all proceeds going to the 2024 graduation show exhibition and the Materials Bursary Fund.

 

Auction Format:  Timed Auction

Close Interval:  1 minute.

Extension Time: 2 minutes

The auction will be run as a Timed Auction with staggered closing times. The first Lot will close at midnight on 4 September 2024. Subsequent lots will close in 1 minute intervals. If a bid is placed within the last 2 minutes the closing time will be reset to 2 minutes.

It may be possible that the closing time of one lot may extend passed the closing time of a following lot.

Payment and Collection

An invoice with payment details will be sent to the successful bidder within the week after the event. Please keep an eye out for this email.

Payment is due immediately upon receipt of the invoice, and artworks will not be released until payments have successfully cleared in the fundraising account. Please ensure timeous payment to allow for this before collecting work.

If we are not able to reach the winner of each bid after several attempts, or payment is not made within the allocated time, the second successful bidder after them will be considered the winner of that bid and will be contacted instead.

Collection of works after the auction will occur at Michaelis UCT in Gardens Cape Town from the 9 to 20 Sep 2024.

Any request to deliver work to areas outside of Cape Town can be done at the successful bidder's own expense. We are able to courier from Postnet to Postnet (0-5kg is R99). Please alert the Silent Auction team upon receipt of your invoice.
